The Oratory of the Annunciation and St. Sebastian
A longtime headquarters of the Disciplinati Confraternity, the Oratory of the Annunciation (commonly called “the church of the defeated”) was built on in Regina Margherita Street during the 1600s. The structure of the historic building rests on a single nave with vaulted support arches. The façade was modified in the second half of the nineteenth century, connecting it to the adjacent buildings. Towards the end of the 1920s, the headquarters of the cult was transformed into a theater hall. With considerable labor and financial investment, the interior was remodeled from 1985 to 1990 to house the present day Sinio Theater Company. In 1989, a significant work by the painter Walter Accigliaro, entitled "Stage effect," was also added.
The Chapel of St. Sebastian sits in a clearing overlooking castle. Construction of the chapel began in 1631 and was gradually completed through the decades. It was designed to be a sacred building attached to the military hospital, and was dedicated to the Saint of Miracle Workers. The building has a longitudinal plan with a semicircular apse of equal height to the nave and an arched portico under the main facade. Already in poor condition by 1711, the bishop of Alba suggested a legal action measure in the absence of further maintenance work. Progressively readjusted first as a community oratory then in 1930 as the headquarters of the Confraternity of the Disciplinanti.
The Sinio Theater Company definitively restored the chapel in 1982 to mark the Company’s 10th anniversary. It is now used as the Theater Company’s technical laboratory and by the Pro-Loco.
